who is andrew chung?
At the risk of sounding too aberrantly philosophical, I have a difficult time answering this question, but I can try as I've been much better at figuring myself out in my 30s. Stop it, you thought I was 22!
I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario but have lived in Los Angeles, Seoul and Ottawa prior to moving to Vancouver. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and a much more interesting Minor in Non-profit and Voluntary Sector Management. I tried out law school for a year at the University of Ottawa until a family emergency called me back but learned a great deal about people, process and the art of dialogue.
The greatest interest in my professional career has been in systems transformation, and improving and innovating organizational processes to maximize operational efficiencies and program or service effectiveness. In this context, much of my experience has been in communications systems, assessing how organizations enable (or prevent) internal stakeholders to collaborate with one another and how, together, they are creating the best client experiences possible. Digging deeper into this is a plethora of activities from the integration of web-based technologies into the daily work lives of employees who relied on filing cabinets and paper documents; creating ideation spaces for organizations to cross-pollinate with others in a "solutions lab" environment to figure out ways around organizational obstacles; and figuring out ways organizations can adopt a shared value approach to revenue development and move beyond the traditional CSR-based relationship.
On a more personal level, I've been an active paddler in the dragon boat community for 10 years and have enjoyed the physical training aspect that comes along with it. I self-identify as gay and am vocal about queer and trans* rights, and tools that mitigate homophobic- and transphobic-based bullying.
The world is too rich and filled with treasures to stop learning. I take every opportunity I can afford (time and money!) to nourish my mind and spirit, and believe it's the only way we've been able to move forward as a human race.
